Weekly Update

Hello Everyone

I can not believe it is June already! The end of the year is sneaking up quickly.

Events
All of our field trips are on the email below.

Wednesday June 5th is our Canada day celebrations in which we are being joined by Taber Christian and Lethbridge Christian. We will be outside most of the day so please make sure your child has a water bottle and is dressed to be out in the sun. I know it is also supposed to be jersey day however it might be wiser to trade the Flames jersey to just a flames t-shirt if you have one.

Friday June 7th is hot lunch hotdogs- we will be coming back to the school in between our field trips.

June 13th Will be our Pizza hot much day (moved from the 14th due to sports day

June 14 is Sports day.

June 21st will be the last day for a student to get work handed in by. There are There are some students that will have very little work to do the last week of school and some that have lots of work to do that last week.

Homework

Math- The math workbooks got a little behind during the Narnia night preparation. There are a few students that need to be working on this at home. I am sending everyone math workbook (it is the yellow one) home for you to check their progress.

LA- We have been keeping up quite well in Language Arts so as long as the students are working well in class they should be able to not have homework

Bible Memory- We have a Bible memory verse of Psalm 23. They have known about it for a couple weeks we have been working on a piece of art work that goes along with the Bible memory work.

Thanks
Alan

Hello Parents

Just wanted to send a quick email about the large number of field trips we have coming up.

On Friday we are going to Park lake as part of our wetlands unit. We are going to with the idea of exploring and seeing a wetland and taking pictures to include in our wetland infographics that all the students are working on. We would love to have parents come along to help the groups explore. If you are able to join us please let me know. Also if you live close to Park Lake and drop your student off their or meet us out there rather than coming into the city just go right back out please let me know through email or a note. We would be out to park late by about 9:20-9:30.

Also on Friday we will be going to the secondary school between 12:30-1:30 to see the middle schools passion projects.

On the 19th we are going to the Galt Museum and on the morning of the 24th we are going over to the Middle school for a visit. (No volunteers needed for these)

On June 25th we are going to the Calgary Zoo. We head up to Calgary right after school starts and then we are back at the school normally around 5:30-6:00. We are looking for volunteers for this trip. If you would like to volunteer as a driver or as a supervisor please let me myself or Miss. Witten know.

Finally the whole school is going to Raymond Pool as a celebration of the end of the year. I am not sure if we require volunteers for this event yet.

Also if you are volunteering or if you are meeting us at a field trip if you could please let me know through email or through a note. It’s not that I don’t trust your children it just messages can sometimes to forgotten or misinterpreted when delivered by them.

Thanks
Alan Riewe

Weekly Update

 Hello 5A Parents

Events
March 22- Hot Lunch Spaghetti
March 29th Spring Program.
April 1st No School PL Day

Homework
  • I encourage everyone to read for at least 15 minutes every night. Also it is beneficial if after they finish reading you ask them questions about what they just read. This could include
    • What did you like or dislike?
    • What happened?
    • Who is your favorite character and why?
    • What do you think will happen next?
    • What is the setting for the part of the book you just read?
    • Any question that shows they are thinking about what they have read?

Bible Memory

I am doing Bible memory in a bit of a new way. The students have all gotten to pick their own Bible memory verse. It has to be at least 8 verses long. They will also have to answer the following questions about the verses they picked. I am not looking for big long theological arguments for these answers. I am looking for genuine reflection on the verses from the students. Feel free to discus and examine the passages with your student.

  • Why they picked it
  • What does the verse mean
  • How does it apply to our lives as Christians
  • What through line or though lines applies to these verses and why?

Then starting on March 11th the students are all assigned a day that during out devotion time they will present their Bible memory verse (they will have to recite it from memory) and provide their answers to all of the questions. Each student needs to be prepared on their day to present with their answers already written or ready to go in a power point.

Bible:

We have started our Jonah and Parables unit. We will be doing an examination of the Book of Jonah as well as looking at some retellings of Jonah. Then we will be moving on to learning about Jesus' Parables and we will be integrating the Parables into our own story writing unit.

Math:

We are moving into the second math book. Have started a new PDM unit. There is no homework for this unit quite yet.

Science:
We have started our Electricity unit- Electricity cover pages and What do you already know about electricity sheets are due Friday March 8th
